Do any restrictions exist when registering a domain name?
For .co.uk and global domain name registration - the following restrictions apply:-
Domain names must be between 3 and 63 characters in length
Two letter domains cannot be registered even if they show as available
Spaces are not allowed at any point
You cant start or end a domain with a "-" however joe-blogs-taps.com is perfectly acceptable

How long does it take to register a domain
name?
Once you have requested GCW to register your domain name - it will be registered immediately and usually become active within 24 Hours.
Once registered can I use my domain name immediately?
Once we have confirmed your registration has been successful your domain name is then ready for use - however the nature of the DNS system for all domain names is such that it can take up to 24 hours for the system to "learn" about your name and for the system to propogate the necessary information around the world to enable the name to become "active".
What happens to my domain after the initial
registration period?
Prior
to the expiry of your initial registration
period you will be sent a renewal invoice by
GCW. You do not have to worry about "losing" your
domain name as providing you pay the renewal
invoice the domain name will be renewed by
GCW on your behalf
Why is the domain name I registered recently still showing up as
available?
Domain name
registry databases can take between 24-48 hours
to be updated so even though your domain has
been registered it may still show up on WHOIS
or "domain checkers" as being available.
Global domain names tend to take the longest
to show up as being registered due to a new
shared registry system.
How do I arrange for my domain name to point to my website?
How do I set up an email account for my new domain name?
You can have more than one email account on your new domain name. i.e. sales at my domain.co.uk john@mydomain.com. Simply give us a call on 0845 166 2786or use the Domain Configuration form.
How do I change the DNS Servers for my domain Name
Will I be charged if I wish to transfer my domain name away from yourselves?
No we make no charges for the transferring of domain names either in or out.
Is it possible to change the registered owner details for a domain name?
Yes. If its a Nominet governed domains (for example a .co.uk, ,org.uk or .me.uk) then ds Nominet have the necessary information on their website. They require transfer forms to be completed by both the owner of the domain name and also the person to whom the domain is being transferred to - along with certain proofs of identity. If its a global domain name which has been registered such as a .com, if you send us the details of the new registrant on headed paper with a signature we will organise for you.
What if I don't want to use my domain yet?
